Meet Our Managers
Michael J. Barone, CFA - Equity Portfolio Manager, Co-Founder
Mr. Barone is a Sidus co-Founder and Portfolio Manager. He oversees the management of the firm’s portfolios with Mr. Tobia. Prior to forming Sidus, he was a Vice President and Senior Technology Analyst at Tudor Investments (1996 to 2000) focusing on the telecommunication, software, and semiconductor sectors. Before Tudor Investments, Mr. Barone was an analyst at Essex Investment Management (1993 to 1996) and ABB Investment Management (1989 to 1993), covering small and mid-cap growth companies in the telecommunication, semiconductor, and software sectors.
Mr. Barone earned his M.B.A. from City College (CUNY), and his B.A. in Engineering from Lafayette College. He holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in Finance from New York University and is also a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA).
Alfred V. Tobia - Equity Portfolio Manager, Co-Founder
Mr. Tobia is a firm co-Founder and Portfolio Manager. He oversees the management of the firm’s portfolios with Mr. Barone. Mr. Tobia was previously a Senior Managing Director and Supervisory Analyst (1996 to 2000) within the data networking and telecommunication equipment sectors at Banc of America Securities (formerly Montgomery). From 1992 to 1996, he was a Senior Analyst at Wertheim Schroeder & Co., focusing on PC and entertainment software, data networking and special situations. During this period, Mr. Tobia was twice named to the Wall Street Journal’s Analyst All-Star team for stock selection. Prior to that, Mr. Tobia was an analyst at Mabon Nugent & Co. (1986 to 1992), covering various sectors of technology.
Mr. Tobia earned his B.A. in Engineering from Lafayette College and is currently serving on the Board of Directors of Harte Hanks since 2017.
Mr. Hackett joined Sidus as a Portfolio Manager in 2009, after more than 5 years at Bank of New York (2003 to 2008), where he was a Managing Director responsible for the sales and trading efforts in convertibles while cross selling between high-yield and investment grade products. Previously, he was a Managing Director at Wasserstein Perella-Grantchester Securities (1999 to 2003) and prior to that, a Managing Director at Bankers Trust-Alex Brown (1997 to 1999). Before that period, Mr. Hackett spent several years at Lehman Brothers and JPMorgan Securities on their convertible sales trading desks. He started his Wall Street career in 1991 as an analyst at Mabon, Nugent & Co., after 4 years as a Senior Systems Consultant with Anderson Consulting. Prior to that, Mr. Hackett worked on Senator Bill Bradley’s third campaign for the U.S. Senate.
Mr. Hackett earned his B.A. in Engineering from Lafayette College.
